Curaçao · The area

Jan Thiel & Mambo Beach, close to the villa.

Two of Curaçao’s liveliest beaches are just minutes from Villa Mondi. Here is what you’ll find, and how to get there.

Where you are

Two beaches, a stone’s throw away.

Villa Mondi sits in a quiet, gated resort in the south-east of Curaçao, close to the island’s best-known beaches. Jan Thiel Beach is about 12 minutes away, Mambo Beach roughly 13 minutes. Two very different beaches, both within easy reach of your own home base.

Jan Thiel is known for its beach clubs and lively buzz. Mambo Beach is a little more central, with a boulevard full of shops and restaurants and calm water that is ideal for snorkelling. Below you’ll find what to do at each beach, followed by practical tips for your stay.

Jan Thiel Beach

A lively beach with beach clubs.

Jan Thiel Beach lies along a sheltered bay with clear, calm water and soft sand. It is one of Curaçao’s most popular beaches, with a mix of beach clubs, restaurants, water sports and wellness. Spend a full day on a sun lounger, or head out on a paddleboard, jet ski or with a snorkel set. Around the bay you’ll find colourful coral and plenty of fish.

There is plenty of choice for food and drinks. Well-known spots include Zanzibar, Tinto Bar y Cocina, Koko’s Beach and Agave Bar y Taquería. A regular highlight is the Saturday Happy Hour at Zanzibar, starting around 5pm with live music and dancing with your feet in the sand. Note that Jan Thiel charges a small beach entry fee, in the order of a few dollars per person.

Our tip

Want to beat the crowds? Go early in the morning, when the beach is almost yours and parking is easy.

Mambo Beach

Snorkelling and the boulevard.

Mambo Beach is a wide sandy beach with a lively boulevard behind it, full of restaurants, beach clubs and shops. The beach is loved for snorkelling: breakwaters keep the waves small and create calm lagoons where fish gather. Around the rock formations you’ll spot parrotfish, angelfish and sometimes a squid. With limited current, it is also a pleasant spot for beginner snorkellers.

Along the boulevard you can browse shops with swimwear, souvenirs and handmade goods, and stop for lunch or a cocktail by the sea. Nearby is the Curaçao Sea Aquarium, where you can come face to face with dolphins, sharks and other sea life. A great combination for a day with children.
